Franklin Township is where Larry Parkhurst started Parkhurst Family Plumbing in November 2023. It’s where we completed our first job, earned our first reviews, and built the reputation that carries us across the entire Southside. When your plumber is based in your own township, you get something no franchise or cross-town company can offer: a team that knows your streets, your housing stock, and your neighbors.
Â
Franklin Township covers roughly 42 square miles in the southeastern corner of Marion County — from Emerson Avenue on the west to Carroll Road on the east, and from Troy Avenue on the north to County Line Road on the south. That includes established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions, and everything in between. We’ve worked on homes throughout the township, from water heater replacements and water softener installations to emergency leak repairs and whole-house repiping.

What Franklin Township Homeowners Should Know
A Township That's Grown Over 200% in Recent Decades
Franklin Township’s population has surged dramatically, driven by new residential development throughout the southeastern corridor. That growth means the township has a wide range of housing ages, from 1950s and 1960s homes near the Five Points area to brand-new construction in subdivisions off Southeastern Avenue and Franklin Road. The plumbing in a 1960s home is nothing like the plumbing in a 2020s home, and we know what to expect from each.
Franklin Township's Water Is Very Hard
Like the rest of Marion County, Franklin Township is served by Citizens Energy Group with water hardness ranging from 12 to 25 grains per gallon. That’s well into “very hard” territory. It means calcium and magnesium are building up inside your water heater, pipes, and appliances every day. A water softener is one of the smartest investments a Franklin Township homeowner can make.
Pre-1980 Homes May Have Aging Pipe Materials
Franklin Township’s older neighborhoods, particularly near Five Points, along Southeastern Avenue, and in the Acton area, include homes built with galvanized steel supply lines and cast iron drains that are now 50 to 70 years old. Newer homes from the 1980s and 1990s may have polybutylene supply lines. If your home’s plumbing has never been professionally assessed, a plumbing inspection is a smart first step.
Spring Storms and Clay Soil Mean Sump Pumps Matter
Franklin Township’s mix of clay soil and relatively flat terrain holds water during heavy rain events. Homes with basements, especially older ones without modern waterproofing, depend on their sump pump to keep things dry. A battery backup is essential here because the storms that bring the most water often bring power outages, too.

If you want to work with an honest plumber who will execute the job with excellence, then you need to come to Parkhurst Family Plumbing! We had a major water leak and they got us in contact with a company that would help us with the insurance process while working quickly to help resolve the plumbing issues. We have had him install our kitchen sink four years ago, install a dish washer, install some toilets, replace the outside water spigot after it was leaking, reinstall the garbage disposal, fix the burst pipe (which required getting in the slab) and also fix a bad installation of a pipe in our bathroom by the home builders 20 years ago. He does an outstanding job and will be honest through the process. He’s also come out after hours and all times of the day and NOT charged an arm and a leg. Thanks, Larry! I should have left a review a long time ago — he can do it all!

I contacted Larry around 11am because the installers for our new stove said we needed to have a licensed plumber come out and change our stoves gas line. Larry came out later the same day and had everything fixed and even helped install our new stove for us. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you find yourself in need with your plumbing because he really saved my sanity by being here so fast and helping us.

We had a new experience in our home last night. We used the master tub, only to come downstairs and find an absurd amount of water coming from around the air vent in the kitchen ceiling! I immediately called Larry, and he was able to come over bright and early this morning to check the problem. Larry quickly found the issue: come to find out, we had a crack in the overflow catch! Larry was able to get it fixed and did a great patch in the wall, too! We’ve never had a plumbing issue before this, but if we ever do again, we definitely know who to call!

INDIANAPOLIS WATER: WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN IT?
Indianapolis tap water runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon — anything above 7 is considered hard, according to Citizens Energy Group. That mineral load is why water heaters, fixtures, and appliances wear out early across the Southside.
