hOW CAN WE HELP?
Serving Franklin From Our Indianapolis Location
We’re based in Franklin Township on the Southside of Indianapolis, about 20 minutes north of downtown Franklin via I-65 or US-31. Franklin is the farthest city in our primary service zone, but it’s a straight shot down the interstate, and we serve it regularly. When you call, you’re getting an Indiana-licensed plumber with over three decades of experience, not a dispatcher trying to find someone willing to drive this far.
Â
Franklin’s mix of old and new housing means we see everything here — galvanized pipes and cast iron drains in the historic neighborhoods near the courthouse, polybutylene supply lines in the 1980s and 1990s subdivisions, and modern PEX systems in the newer builds south and east of town. We know what to expect from each era of Franklin construction, and we bring the right approach to each one.

What Franklin Homeowners Should Know
Downtown Franklin Has Some of the Oldest Plumbing in the County
Franklin was platted in 1823, and many of the homes near the Johnson County Courthouse and along Jefferson Street date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. These homes often have galvanized steel supply lines, cast iron drain pipes, and lead-soldered copper joints that predate modern plumbing standards. If you own a historic Franklin home that’s never had its plumbing assessed, a [plumbing inspection | /plumbing/plumbing-inspections/] is a smart first step.
Franklin's Water Is Extremely Hard
Like the rest of Johnson County, Franklin is served by Indiana American Water, which delivers groundwater at 21 to 22 grains per gallon from limestone aquifer wells. That level of hardness causes aggressive scale buildup in water heaters, pipes, dishwashers, and on every fixture in your home. A water softener is standard practice for Franklin homeowners.
Franklin's Growth Means a Wide Range of Plumbing Systems
Franklin’s population has grown over 30% since 2000, and the city continues to add new subdivisions south and east of the original town center. That means plumbing systems range from 100+ year-old galvanized and cast iron in the historic core to modern PEX and PVC in the newest developments. We work on all of it and know what each era of construction typically needs.
Clay Soil and Basement Moisture
Like much of Johnson County, Franklin sits on clay-heavy soil that retains water during heavy rain and spring snowmelt. Older Franklin homes with basements are especially vulnerable to moisture intrusion when their sump pump can’t keep up. A battery backup is essential here; the storms that bring the most water are the same ones that knock out power.

If you want to work with an honest plumber who will execute the job with excellence, then you need to come to Parkhurst Family Plumbing! We had a major water leak and they got us in contact with a company that would help us with the insurance process while working quickly to help resolve the plumbing issues. We have had him install our kitchen sink four years ago, install a dish washer, install some toilets, replace the outside water spigot after it was leaking, reinstall the garbage disposal, fix the burst pipe (which required getting in the slab) and also fix a bad installation of a pipe in our bathroom by the home builders 20 years ago. He does an outstanding job and will be honest through the process. He’s also come out after hours and all times of the day and NOT charged an arm and a leg. Thanks, Larry! I should have left a review a long time ago — he can do it all!

I contacted Larry around 11am because the installers for our new stove said we needed to have a licensed plumber come out and change our stoves gas line. Larry came out later the same day and had everything fixed and even helped install our new stove for us. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you find yourself in need with your plumbing because he really saved my sanity by being here so fast and helping us.

Save thousands and use Parkhurst. The big dogs in town will rob you blind!! Apples to Apples quote proves that. One of the few honest business left in Indianapolis. I will 100% use them in the future.

We had a new experience in our home last night. We used the master tub, only to come downstairs and find an absurd amount of water coming from around the air vent in the kitchen ceiling! I immediately called Larry, and he was able to come over bright and early this morning to check the problem. Larry quickly found the issue: come to find out, we had a crack in the overflow catch! Larry was able to get it fixed and did a great patch in the wall, too! We’ve never had a plumbing issue before this, but if we ever do again, we definitely know who to call!

INDIANAPOLIS WATER: WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN IT?
Indianapolis tap water runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon — anything above 7 is considered hard, according to Citizens Energy Group. That mineral load is why water heaters, fixtures, and appliances wear out early across the Southside.
