Plumbing Inspection Services in Indianapolis
Know What's Going On Before
Something Goes Wrong
Most plumbing problems don’t announce themselves until they’ve already caused damage. A whole-house plumbing inspection gives you a clear picture of your system’s condition, such as what’s working, what’s wearing out, and what needs attention now versus later. We offer inspections for homeowners, real estate transactions, and annual checkups across Southside Indianapolis and surrounding communities.

Plumbing Inspections
hOW CAN WE HELP?
Catch Problems Before They Become Emergencies
Industry data shows that roughly 1 in 3 home inspections reveal plumbing problems that need repair. That includes hidden leaks, corroded pipes, failing water heaters, undersized sump pumps, and outdated pipe materials that are past their useful life. The difference between a $200 repair and a $5,000 emergency is often a matter of when you find the problem.
Â
We offer whole-house plumbing inspections for homeowners who want peace of mind, buyers who want to know what they’re getting into, and property owners who want to stay ahead of maintenance. We also offer free second opinions if you’ve received a quote from another plumber and want an honest assessment before committing. Every inspection ends with a clear, plain-language explanation of what we found. No jargon, no pressure, no sales pitch.

When a Plumbing Inspection Makes Sense
You’re Purchasing a Home and Want to Know the Plumbing ConditionÂ
- What to do: Schedule a plumbing inspection before your home purchase closes. We coordinate with your home inspector or real estate agent.
Your Home Is 20+ Years Old, and You’ve Never Had the Plumbing CheckedÂ
- What to do: Schedule an annual inspection. Our $199 Water Heater Flush + Full Plumbing Inspection is designed for exactly this situation.
You’ve Called a Plumber More Than Once This YearÂ
If you’ve had two or three different repairs in a short period — a leaking faucet here, a running toilet there, a slow drain somewhere else — it may point to a systemic issue rather than isolated problems. An inspection looks at the whole picture instead of just the individual symptoms.
- What to do: Call us for a full system assessment. We'll determine whether you're dealing with one-off wear items or a broader problem like pipe deterioration or hard water damage.
Another Plumber Quoted You a Large Repair and You’re Not SureÂ
Getting a second set of eyes on a big plumbing quote is just common sense. We offer free second opinions on any quoted plumbing project. We’ll look at the same problem and give you our honest assessment. We will tell you whether the original recommendation and the price make sense.Â
- What to do: Call us at (317) 517-9348 and mention you'd like a second opinion. There's no charge and no obligation.
You’re Preparing to Sell and Want to Address Issues FirstÂ
Plumbing problems found during a buyer’s inspection can delay or kill a sale. A pre-listing plumbing inspection lets you identify and fix issues on your timeline before they become negotiation leverage for the buyer. It also shows buyers that the home has been well-maintained.Â
- What to do: Schedule an inspection before you list. We'll give you a clear picture of what needs attention and what doesn't.
Inspection Services We Offer
Complete Home Plumbing Inspection
A thorough assessment of your home's entire plumbing system — supply lines, drain lines, water pressure, shut-off valves, fixture condition, visible pipe material, water heater age and performance, sump pump function, and accessible connections. We check what's visible and note anything that warrants further investigation.
$199 Water Heater Flush + Full Plumbing Inspection
Our most popular package. Includes a complete water heater flush to remove sediment buildup, plus a full-house plumbing walkthrough covering all the items in a standard inspection. This is the best annual maintenance value we offer, two services in one visit at one price.
Real Estate and Pre-Purchase Inspection
A focused inspection designed for homebuyers. We assess the plumbing system's current condition, identify the pipe material, estimate the age and remaining life of key components, and flag anything that should be addressed before or shortly after purchase. We provide a written summary you can share with your agent.
Free Second Opinion on a Quoted Project
If another plumber quoted you a repair and the price or recommendation doesn't feel right, call us. We'll assess the same issue independently and give you our honest take. There's no charge for a second opinion. It's how we've built most of our long-term customer relationships.
Why a Plumbing Inspection Is Worth Your Time
Small Catches Now Prevent Big Bills Later
A slow leak behind a wall, a water heater with a failing anode rod, a sump pump that hesitates when it cycles — these are things you won't notice until they cause real damage. An inspection finds them while they're still small, easy, and inexpensive to fix.
Understand the Condition of Your System
After an inspection, you'll know the age of your water heater, the material of your pipes, the condition of your shut-off valves, and whether any components are approaching the end of life. This lets you plan and budget for maintenance instead of reacting to emergencies.
We Tell You What We Find — Not What We Want to Sell
Our inspection isn't a sales tool. If everything looks good, we'll tell you everything looks good. If something needs attention, we'll explain what it is, how urgent it is, and what it would cost to address. You decide what to do with the information; there's no pressure.
Documentation That Protects Your Investment
A documented plumbing inspection creates a record of your system's condition. For homebuyers, it's peace of mind. For sellers, it's proof of maintenance. For homeowners staying put, it's a roadmap for what to watch.
What We Check During an Inspection
A whole-house plumbing inspection covers every accessible component of your plumbing system. Here’s what we look at.
Water Supply System:
Main shut-off valve condition and operation, supply line material identification (copper, PEX, galvanized, polybutylene), visible pipe condition, water pressure test at multiple fixtures, and check for active leaks at accessible connections.
Drain and Waste System:
Drain flow at all fixtures, visible drain line condition, P-trap integrity, and signs of slow drainage or partial blockages. We note any cast iron sections showing corrosion or any drain lines that may need attention.
Water Heater:
Unit age, brand, condition, temperature output, anode rod status (if accessible), visible corrosion, connection integrity, and relief valve function. If included in the $199 package, we also flush the tank to remove sediment.
Fixtures and Appliances:
Toilets (flush performance, base stability, fill valve condition), faucets (drip test, handle operation), sump pump (activation test, float switch, discharge line), shut-off valves at each fixture, and exposed connections under sinks.
After the Inspection:
We walk you through everything we found in plain language. No written report full of codes, just a clear conversation about what's good, what needs attention now, and what to keep an eye on. If anything needs repair, we can quote it on the spot or schedule a follow-up at your convenience.
Related Services
Water Heater Services
If our inspection reveals a water heater issue, we can repair or replace it — often during the same visit or the next day.
Repiping
If we identify galvanized or polybutylene pipes during the inspection, we'll discuss your repiping options and help you plan the project.
Water Quality Services
An inspection can reveal hard water damage on fixtures and inside your water heater. A water softener or filtration system addresses the root cause.
If you want to work with an honest plumber who will execute the job with excellence, then you need to come to Parkhurst Family Plumbing! We had a major water leak and they got us in contact with a company that would help us with the insurance process while working quickly to help resolve the plumbing issues. We have had him install our kitchen sink four years ago, install a dish washer, install some toilets, replace the outside water spigot after it was leaking, reinstall the garbage disposal, fix the burst pipe (which required getting in the slab) and also fix a bad installation of a pipe in our bathroom by the home builders 20 years ago. He does an outstanding job and will be honest through the process. He’s also come out after hours and all times of the day and NOT charged an arm and a leg. Thanks, Larry! I should have left a review a long time ago — he can do it all!

I contacted Larry around 11am because the installers for our new stove said we needed to have a licensed plumber come out and change our stoves gas line. Larry came out later the same day and had everything fixed and even helped install our new stove for us. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you find yourself in need with your plumbing because he really saved my sanity by being here so fast and helping us.

Save thousands and use Parkhurst. The big dogs in town will rob you blind!! Apples to Apples quote proves that. One of the few honest business left in Indianapolis. I will 100% use them in the future.

We had a new experience in our home last night. We used the master tub, only to come downstairs and find an absurd amount of water coming from around the air vent in the kitchen ceiling! I immediately called Larry, and he was able to come over bright and early this morning to check the problem. Larry quickly found the issue: come to find out, we had a crack in the overflow catch! Larry was able to get it fixed and did a great patch in the wall, too! We’ve never had a plumbing issue before this, but if we ever do again, we definitely know who to call!

INDIANAPOLIS WATER: WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN IT?
Indianapolis tap water runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon — anything above 7 is considered hard, according to Citizens Energy Group. That mineral load is why water heaters, fixtures, and appliances wear out early across the Southside.

Plumbing Inspection Questions
How much does a plumbing inspection cost?
Our $199 Water Heater Flush + Full Plumbing Inspection is the best value. It covers a complete system walkthrough plus a water heater flush in a single visit. Standalone inspections are also available. Call us for details.
Is a second opinion really free?
Yes. If another plumber quoted you a repair and you want a second set of eyes, call us. We’ll look at the same issue, give you our honest assessment, and tell you whether the recommendation and the pricing seem right. No charge, no obligation.
How long does a plumbing inspection take?
A full-house inspection typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the home and the number of fixtures. If it includes a water heater flush, add another 30 to 45 minutes. We schedule enough time to be thorough without rushing.
Should I get a plumbing inspection before buying a house?
Yes. A standard home inspection touches plumbing at a surface level, but a licensed plumber catches things a general inspector may not — pipe material, water heater condition, supply line integrity, and signs of hidden problems. For older Indianapolis homes, it’s especially worthwhile.
How often should I have my plumbing inspected?
Once a year is a good standard, especially for homes over 15 years old. Our $199 package makes it practical to do annually; you get a water heater flush and a full system check in one visit. It’s the most cost-effective way to stay ahead of plumbing problems.
