Certified Tankless Service From a Team That Knows These Systems
Tankless water heaters are different from traditional tank units in almost every way — how they’re sized, how they’re vented, how they’re maintained, and what can go wrong. That’s why manufacturer certifications matter. We didn’t just take a class. We’re factory-trained by Navien and Rinnai to install, diagnose, and service their tankless systems to spec. That protects your warranty and ensures the job is done right.
Â
We also install and service Vesta tankless units. Whether you’re upgrading from a tank water heater, adding a tankless system to new construction, or need repair on an existing unit, we handle the full scope — installation, conversion, maintenance, and repair across the Greater Southside Indianapolis area.

Signs Your Tankless Water Heater Needs Service
Error Code Flashing on the Unit
Tankless water heaters have built-in diagnostic displays. If you see an error code, the unit has detected a problem — it could be anything from a flame failure to a flow sensor issue. Don’t ignore it or try to reset it repeatedly.Â
- What to do: Write down the code and call us. As certified Navien and Rinnai technicians, we know what each code means and how to fix it properly.
Water Temperature Swings Hot and ColdÂ
If your water goes from hot to cold to hot again mid-shower (sometimes called a “cold water sandwich”), it can point to a flow sensor problem, a clogged heat exchanger, or an undersized unit struggling with demand.Â
- What to do: Schedule a service call. We'll check the flow rate, inspect the heat exchanger, and determine whether it's a maintenance issue or a sizing problem.
Noticeably Lower Hot Water PressureÂ
Scale buildup inside the heat exchanger is the most common cause of reduced flow in tankless systems. Indianapolis water hardness accelerates this problem — mineral deposits restrict the passages that water flows through, reducing output over time.Â
- What to do: The unit likely needs a descaling flush. Annual flushing prevents this from becoming a recurring problem.
System Shuts Down Mid-UseÂ
If the unit fires up but then shuts off while you’re using hot water, the issue could be a blocked vent, insufficient gas supply, or a flame rod that needs cleaning. Gas tankless units need proper venting and adequate gas line sizing to operate correctly.Â
- What to do: Call us for a diagnosis. Venting and gas supply issues should be assessed by a licensed professional — not troubleshot with online videos.
It’s Been Over a Year Since the Last FlushÂ
If your tankless water heater hasn’t been flushed in the past 12 months — especially in Indianapolis — scale is building up inside the heat exchanger. That buildup reduces efficiency, increases energy use, and can shorten the life of the unit.Â
- What to do: Schedule an annual tankless flush. It's one of the most effective things you can do to protect your investment.
Tankless Water Heater Services We Provide
New Installation and Tank-to-Tankless Conversion
We handle complete tankless installations for new construction, remodels, and conversions from traditional tank systems. Conversions require proper gas line sizing, upgraded venting, and sometimes electrical work. We manage the full scope so it's done to manufacturer specs and local code.
Tankless Repair and Diagnostics
Error codes, ignition failures, temperature fluctuations, flow sensor issues, and control board problems. We're factory-certified to diagnose and repair Navien, Rinnai, and Vesta tankless systems using manufacturer-approved procedures.
Annual Descaling and Maintenance
A yearly descaling flush removes the mineral buildup that Indianapolis's hard water deposits inside the heat exchanger. We also clean flame rods, inspect venting, check gas pressure, and verify the unit is operating at its rated efficiency.
Hot Water Recirculating Systems
Tired of waiting 30 seconds for hot water to reach a distant bathroom? A recirculating system paired with your tankless unit delivers hot water almost instantly at every fixture. We install demand-activated recirculating pumps that only run when you need them.
Why Indianapolis Homeowners Choose Tankless
Real Savings on Your Monthly Bills
According to ENERGY STAR, a certified gas tankless water heater saves a family of four approximately $95 per year on gas bills compared to a standard tank unit — that's roughly $1,800 in savings over the life of the system. The savings come from eliminating standby heat loss, which is the energy a tank wastes keeping water hot around the clock.
Twice the Lifespan of a Tank Unit
ENERGY STAR reports that tankless water heaters have a life expectancy of 20 years — significantly longer than traditional tank units. With proper annual maintenance, many tankless systems exceed that mark. That means fewer replacements over the life of your home.
Hot Water That Doesn't Run Out
A tankless system heats water on demand. There's no tank to drain and no recovery time between showers. Whether you're running the dishwasher while someone showers or filling a large soaking tub, the hot water keeps coming as long as you need it.
Factory-Certified Installation Protects Your Warranty
Navien and Rinnai both require certified installation for full warranty coverage. Hiring an uncertified installer can void the manufacturer's warranty before you've used the unit for a single year. Our certifications mean your system is installed to spec, and your warranty stays intact.
What to Expect from Our Tankless Service
Every tankless service call starts with a full system assessment. We check the heat exchanger, flame rod, gas pressure, venting, water flow rate, inlet filter, and error code history. Once we know what’s going on, we explain it clearly and quote the work before we start.
For Installations and Conversions
We start with a site assessment to determine the right unit size for your household, verify that your gas line can supply adequate volume, and plan the venting route. Installation includes mounting, gas and water connections, venting, electrical hookup, system testing, and homeowner walkthrough. If you're converting from a tank, we remove and dispose of your old unit. Financing is available through Wisetack with 0% interest for 12 months.
For Maintenance
Annual descaling flush, flame rod cleaning, inlet filter cleaning, gas pressure verification, and full system performance check. We use manufacturer-recommended descaling solutions and procedures. This is the single best thing you can do to keep your tankless system running efficiently in Indianapolis hard water.
Brands We're Certified On
Navien (Certified), Rinnai (Certified), and Vesta. We also service other tankless brands. If you're not sure what's in your home, we can identify it on-site.

Traditional Water Heaters
Not sure if tankless is right for your home? We also repair and install tank water heaters and can help you compare both options side by side.
Water Softener Installation
Indianapolis hard water is the #1 threat to your tankless heat exchanger. A water softener protects your investment and reduces how often the unit needs flushing.
Gas Line Services
Tank-to-tankless conversions often require gas line upgrades. We handle gas line installation and repair as part of the project.
If you want to work with an honest plumber who will execute the job with excellence, then you need to come to Parkhurst Family Plumbing! We had a major water leak and they got us in contact with a company that would help us with the insurance process while working quickly to help resolve the plumbing issues. We have had him install our kitchen sink four years ago, install a dish washer, install some toilets, replace the outside water spigot after it was leaking, reinstall the garbage disposal, fix the burst pipe (which required getting in the slab) and also fix a bad installation of a pipe in our bathroom by the home builders 20 years ago. He does an outstanding job and will be honest through the process. He’s also come out after hours and all times of the day and NOT charged an arm and a leg. Thanks, Larry! I should have left a review a long time ago — he can do it all!

I contacted Larry around 11am because the installers for our new stove said we needed to have a licensed plumber come out and change our stoves gas line. Larry came out later the same day and had everything fixed and even helped install our new stove for us. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you find yourself in need with your plumbing because he really saved my sanity by being here so fast and helping us.

Save thousands and use Parkhurst. The big dogs in town will rob you blind!! Apples to Apples quote proves that. One of the few honest business left in Indianapolis. I will 100% use them in the future.

We had a new experience in our home last night. We used the master tub, only to come downstairs and find an absurd amount of water coming from around the air vent in the kitchen ceiling! I immediately called Larry, and he was able to come over bright and early this morning to check the problem. Larry quickly found the issue: come to find out, we had a crack in the overflow catch! Larry was able to get it fixed and did a great patch in the wall, too! We’ve never had a plumbing issue before this, but if we ever do again, we definitely know who to call!

INDIANAPOLIS WATER: WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN IT?
Indianapolis tap water runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon — anything above 7 is considered hard, according to Citizens Energy Group. That mineral load is why water heaters, fixtures, and appliances wear out early across the Southside.

Tankless Water Heater Questions
Is a tankless water heater worth the investment?
For many Indianapolis homeowners, yes. You get continuous hot water, lower monthly energy costs, a system that lasts roughly twice as long as a tank, and a wall-mounted unit that frees up floor space. The upfront cost is higher, but the long-term return is strong, especially when paired with financing that spreads the cost over time.
How much does tankless installation cost in Indianapolis?
Cost varies based on the unit, fuel type, whether it’s a new install or conversion, and the complexity of venting and gas line work. We provide a written quote after a site assessment. Ask about our Wisetack financing options for manageable monthly payments.
Can you convert my tank water heater to tankless?
In most cases, yes. Conversions require gas line evaluation (tankless units often need a larger supply line), new venting, and sometimes electrical work for controls. We assess your home’s setup during a site visit and let you know exactly what’s involved before committing.
How often does a tankless water heater need maintenance?
At least once a year. In Indianapolis, where water hardness runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon, annual descaling is essential. Skipping it lets mineral scale build up inside the heat exchanger, which reduces efficiency, restricts flow, and can lead to premature failure.
What brands do you install and service?
We’re factory-certified on Navien and Rinnai — two of the most trusted names in tankless water heating. We also install and service Vesta systems. If you have a different brand, call us, and we’ll let you know if we can help.
