hOW CAN WE HELP?
Gas Line Service From a Licensed Indiana Plumber
Gas line work isn’t something to hand off to a handyman or attempt yourself. Improperly installed or repaired gas lines can leak, and natural gas leaks are a serious safety concern. The National Fire Protection Association reports that U.S. fire departments respond to an average of 125,000 residential natural gas leaks per year. Most of those situations are preventable with proper installation, inspection, and maintenance.
Â
We’re licensed, insured, and experienced with gas line work across the Greater Southside Indianapolis area. Every gas line we install or repair is pressure-tested before we leave to confirm there are no leaks. We don’t cut corners on gas work — the stakes are too high.

Signs of a Gas Line Problem
You Smell Rotten Eggs or SulfurÂ
Natural gas is odorless on its own. Utility companies add a chemical called mercaptan that gives it a distinctive rotten egg smell so you can detect it. If you smell this odor in your home, there may be a gas leak.Â
- Immediate step: Leave the home immediately. Do not turn on or off any lights, appliances, or switches. Once you're safely outside, call your gas utility and then call us for the repair.
Hissing or Whistling Sound Near a Gas ConnectionÂ
A hissing sound near a gas pipe, connector, or appliance connection point usually means gas is escaping from a fitting, valve, or line. Even a small leak at a connection point should be addressed by a licensed plumber.Â
- Immediate step: Don't try to tighten the fitting yourself. Ventilate the area by opening windows, leave the home if the smell is strong, and call us.
Dead Grass or Plants in a Line Over Your YardÂ
If you notice a strip of dead or dying vegetation in your yard that follows a path from the street toward your house, a buried gas line beneath it may be leaking. Escaping natural gas displaces oxygen in the soil and kills plant roots.Â
- Immediate step: Stay out of the area and call your gas utility to inspect. If the leak is on your side of the meter, we handle the repair.
Appliance Pilot Light Won’t Stay LitÂ
If the pilot light on your water heater, furnace, or fireplace keeps going out, the gas supply line may have low pressure, or the thermocouple may be failing. It can also indicate a draft problem or a gas valve issue.
- Immediate step: Don't keep relighting it repeatedly without figuring out why it's going out. Call us for a diagnosis.
You’re Installing a Stove, Dryer, Grill, or Generator That Needs GasÂ
Any time you add a gas appliance or convert from electric to gas, a new gas line needs to be run from your existing supply. This includes sizing the line correctly for the appliance’s BTU requirements and ensuring there’s adequate capacity in your existing system to support the new load.
- Immediate step: Call us before the appliance is delivered. We'll assess your existing gas supply capacity and run the new line so it's ready for hookup on installation day.
Gas Line Services We Provide
New Gas Line Installation
We run new gas lines for stoves, ranges, dryers, water heaters, tankless water heaters, fireplaces, outdoor grills, fire pits, and whole-house generators. Every installation includes proper line sizing based on BTU demand, code-compliant materials, and a pressure test to verify a leak-free system.
Gas Line Repair and Leak Repair
Damaged fittings, corroded pipe sections, leaking connectors, and failed valves. We locate the source of the leak, repair or replace the affected section, and pressure test the entire line before putting it back in service.
Gas Leak Detection and Inspection
If you suspect a gas leak but aren't sure where it's coming from, we can test your system. We check all accessible connections, appliance hookups, and exposed pipe runs using professional detection methods. We also perform gas line inspections for homeowners who want to confirm the integrity of their system.
Gas Pipe Replacement
For homes with aging, corroded, or undersized gas piping, we replace sections or full runs to bring the system up to current code and capacity requirements. This is common in older Indianapolis homes where the original gas piping was designed for fewer appliances than the home now uses.
Why Gas Line Work Requires a Licensed Plumber
Gas Work Is a Safety Issue, Not a Convenience
According to the NFPA, natural gas ignites an average of 4,200 home structure fires per year in the United States. Properly installed and maintained gas lines are essential to keeping your home safe. This isn't the kind of work where "close enough" is acceptable.
We Pressure Test Every Line Before We Leave
After every installation or repair, we pressure test the gas line to confirm there are no leaks anywhere in the system. This is standard practice for any licensed gas work, and it's the only way to verify the job is safe. We don't skip this step ever.
Correct Sizing Means Reliable Performance
Gas appliances need a specific volume of gas at a specific pressure to operate correctly. If the supply line is undersized, your appliance won't perform properly. With tankless water heaters, an undersized line can cause the unit to shut down entirely. We calculate BTU requirements and size every line accordingly.
Up to Code Means Up to Standard
Gas line installations must meet local building codes. Working with a licensed plumber means your installation is done to code, inspected if required, and documented properly. This matters if you ever sell your home, file an insurance claim, or add future gas appliances.
What to Expect for Gas Line Work
Gas line work follows a specific process. We don’t rush through it, and we don’t improvise. Here’s how it works.
For New Installations
We start by assessing your existing gas supply to determine whether it can support the additional appliance. We calculate the BTU demand of the new line, select the correct pipe diameter, and run the line from the supply point to the appliance location. Every new installation includes a pressure test before we connect the appliance. Common gas line projects include stove hookups, dryer connections, outdoor grill lines, fireplace feeds, generator connections, and tankless water heater conversions.
For Repairs
We isolate the section with the leak, repair or replace the affected fitting or pipe section, and pressure test the full system to confirm integrity. If the leak is at an appliance connection, we check the connector, valve, and shut-off to make sure everything is tight and in good condition.
Pricing
We provide upfront pricing for all gas line work before we start. The cost depends on the length of the run, accessibility, pipe material, and whether any existing lines need to be modified. Financing is available through Wisetack for larger gas line projects.

Plumbing Inspections
Our whole-house plumbing inspection includes checking accessible gas connections and appliance hookups as part of the full system review.
If you want to work with an honest plumber who will execute the job with excellence, then you need to come to Parkhurst Family Plumbing! We had a major water leak and they got us in contact with a company that would help us with the insurance process while working quickly to help resolve the plumbing issues. We have had him install our kitchen sink four years ago, install a dish washer, install some toilets, replace the outside water spigot after it was leaking, reinstall the garbage disposal, fix the burst pipe (which required getting in the slab) and also fix a bad installation of a pipe in our bathroom by the home builders 20 years ago. He does an outstanding job and will be honest through the process. He’s also come out after hours and all times of the day and NOT charged an arm and a leg. Thanks, Larry! I should have left a review a long time ago — he can do it all!

I contacted Larry around 11am because the installers for our new stove said we needed to have a licensed plumber come out and change our stoves gas line. Larry came out later the same day and had everything fixed and even helped install our new stove for us. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you find yourself in need with your plumbing because he really saved my sanity by being here so fast and helping us.

We had a new experience in our home last night. We used the master tub, only to come downstairs and find an absurd amount of water coming from around the air vent in the kitchen ceiling! I immediately called Larry, and he was able to come over bright and early this morning to check the problem. Larry quickly found the issue: come to find out, we had a crack in the overflow catch! Larry was able to get it fixed and did a great patch in the wall, too! We’ve never had a plumbing issue before this, but if we ever do again, we definitely know who to call!

INDIANAPOLIS WATER: WHAT'S ACTUALLY IN IT?
Indianapolis tap water runs 12 to 25 grains per gallon — anything above 7 is considered hard, according to Citizens Energy Group. That mineral load is why water heaters, fixtures, and appliances wear out early across the Southside.

Gas Line Questions
What should I do if I smell gas in my house?
Leave the home immediately. Do not flip light switches, use your phone inside, or ignite anything. Once you’re safely outside, call your gas utility’s emergency line first, then call us at (317) 517-9348 for the repair. Your utility will confirm the leak and make the area safe. We handle the repair.
Can you run a gas line to my outdoor grill or fire pit?
Yes. We run gas lines for built-in outdoor grills, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and patio heaters. The line is run from your existing gas supply, sized to the appliance, and pressure tested before we connect it.
How much does gas line installation cost?
Cost depends on the length of the run, pipe size, accessibility (crawl space, attic, through walls), and whether any existing gas infrastructure needs to be modified. We provide a written quote after assessing the project. Financing is available for larger installations.
Do I need a gas line upgrade for a tankless water heater?
Often, yes. tankless water heaters typically require a larger gas supply line than traditional tank units due to their higher BTU demand. We assess your existing gas line during the tankless installation consultation and include any necessary upgrades in the project scope.
Is gas line work something a licensed plumber handles?
Yes. In Indiana, gas line installation and repair must be performed by a licensed plumber. We’re fully licensed (CO52400001 / PC10400138), insured, and experienced with residential and commercial gas line work. Every job includes a pressure test to verify the system is leak-free.
